In the evening Fai Lee took us to the new capital city called Putrajaya which is the federal administrative centre of Malaysia that was moved from KL in 1999. It's a beautiful small city. Fai Lee was complaining a lot about the politicians (but who doesn't?). We went to Putra Square located in front of Putra Mosque and the Prime Minister's office, it was full of families enjoying a Saturday night. People had picnics, little children were driving small cars guided by their parents, some other children were roller-blading. The square was full of life. This new city is modern, well planned and organised (but with hidden huge amount of debts).

Fai Lee told us a lot of stories about the political system in Malaysia, many about religion and how it affects people if they are not Muslims. People here live in harmony dispite of different backgrounds or religions but some extremist/fanatic politicians raised some sensitive issues in regards to races and religion, for example there is a law: a non-muslim is not allowed to promote their religion to a muslim, but a muslim can promote islam to anyone (in fact we were stopped in the street of Kuala Lumpur by two very young girls who tried to convert us to islam).

Our impression of KL is that the people are very friendly (Fai Lee said that only for tourists looking like foreigners) and the standard of living is higher than in South America for example. Prices are not as high as I thought they would be, for example a meal for three people in a restaurant cost £25. But the living standard in KL isn't very high, there are some cheap restaurants that we didn't go to as we could get ill. It's the high inflation that has caused price rises in the past few years and people in Kuala Lumpur believe that serious corruption is the root cause of this.

Our host thinks that the disappearance of the Malaysian plane has to do something with the fact that the pilot was Malaysian and a lot of passengers were Chinese. Many people think that the government knows what really happened but they hide the truth.

I am writing this on the bus to Singapore where we are planning to spend two days. In the pictures: in Putrajaya.
