We were not looking forward to staying in Trang, we read online that it's a boring city but we had to change in Trang to get to Satun and then by ferry to Malaysia. However, we were pleasantly surprised. There is not much to do here indeed but the city is really nice, clean and spacious, it even reminds us a bit of Sicily. We arrived on Saturday and there was a Saturday night market that we liked very much. We don't eat street food in Asia but in this particular city the food at the market looked nice and clean. For the first time in Asia, I saw and tried nice sweets. Asia disappointed me because of lack of good sweets and in this market I found a few stalls with very tasty homemade fresh sweets, of course very different than in Europe but really nice with sweet red beans, soya, bananas and some magic fruits.
I also tried insects, grass hopers and few kinds of worms and I was really disappointed with the taste. They were fried so I expected them all to be nice and crunchy but they were too soft inside or just very dry.
There are very few tourists in Trang so the local people are not used to them. We are not hassled by anyone in the streets and everything costs little, and what's more important, nobody tries to rip us off. We are impressed, we found the real Thailand in this city. I would love to explore it more with a Couchsurfing host but I bet there is no Couchsurfing here.
This morning at 8 am we took a bus to Satun.
In the pictures: in Trang with a delicious banana and coconut sweet and buying the not-so-delicious insects.
