In Fukuoka

Yesterday we travelled from Sapporo to Fukuoka. Distance: 1420 km, cost £70 by Peach Airlines per person. Our Couchsurfing host Asami met us at the tube station, 1 stop after the airport. The Fukuoka airport is situated almost in the centre of the city.

Asami lives in a beautiful and spotlessly clean flat and we sleep in a typical Japanese room on a tatami floor and futons. We feel very comfortable in her flat with her, and I had a very good sleep. I like sleeping on hard surfaces but Fausto suffers. Asami gave him an extra mattress so he slept well too.
Asami worked as a nurse, assisting during operations. She gave up the work and decided to have a break. She was travelling 4 hours every day to get to work and back. No wonder she resigned! She will be looking for a job in the summer.

She took us to JR Hakata City Roof Garden. In many Asian cities, an airport or train station is not just an airport or a train station, it's a huge shopping center. Hakata is the main train station in Fukuoka with a shopping centre and a great roof garden on 11th floor.

There is no cherry blossom (Sakura) in Fukuoka, 2 days ago it had been raining a lot and all the flowers fell to ground.
