We are returning to the UK this night.
This morning we took a bus from Mount Lavinia to Negombo. We had to change in Colombo. The international airport is situated between Colombo and Negombo so first we went to the airport and left the luggage there, we paid 200 rupees for two suitcases.
From the airport we took a bus to Negombo, a big city popular with tourists because of the proximity to the airport and a lagoon. Our first impression was that we didn't like it.
We went to the beach and I couldn't believe how much litter there was. I had a swim in the water that didn't seem dirty, it's mainly the beach. Yesterday it was a full moon holiday so there were crowds of local people littering the beach. Today is Friday, we were told that the beach will be cleaned on Monday. This is ridiculous.
Forgetting the litter, the beach is really nice, long belt of nice sand with palm trees. If it was cleaned, it would be a real hit with foreigners.
