Valladolid

On Wednesday 8 January we took the ferry back to Chiquila and then we shared a taxi with a Dutch guy to Valladolid. The taxi was 1,000 pesos (around £40). While Fausto was chatting to the guy at the back of the car, I was chatting with the driver for 1.5 hours and it was a great Spanish lesson for me. He told me a lot about the new president of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador and hopes for a better life, including a significant reduction in corruption. Some changes have already happened, for example he lowered the presidents' salaries and pensions.

In Valladolid we are staying in a lovely traditional Mexican hotel. We had a good rest in the afternoon and then we went out. We really like it here. It's a small traditional, laid-back Mexican town that feels very secure and has nice inexpensive food. It's reminds me of Oaxaca, it's was definitely worth coming here.
