We went to Kochi port and took a ferry to Vypin Island (10 minutes on the ferry). Then we took a local bus without windows (our favourite mean of transport!) to Cherai beach. Then a taxi to Kuzhupilly beach. Fausto didn't like the beaches as there were no bars and also a lot of litter on the sand, under the beautiful palm trees. I was pleasantly surprised, I thought we would see a lot of local people on the beach that would stare at us and take pictures/videos of us without permission. Instead, the beach was almost deserted, there were just some local workers, still staring at us.
In the evening we took the excellent water metro to Ernakulam (inland part of Kochi) and went to Ernakulam Shiva Temple for the Shivaratri celebration. We watched the elephants being washed before the celebration, traditional dancing, and there were many lights hanging from the trees. Then we met with Blue, a friend of Shahid from Bangalore. He came by car, gave us a lift back to Fort Kochi, and we went to a nice restaurant for my favourite drink (lemon soda).
