The following day (Sunday 26th January) I flew to Patagonia. I left home 5 hours before the flight and I got to EZEIZA airport 2 hours before the flight because of the traffic. I thought it was only London where it takes ages to get to an airport. I took a local bus number 8 that cost £1.20.
I arrived in El Calafate. The air is so fresh and it's so amazingly remote here. Just the nature, hills and mountains. I took a bus from the airport to El Chaltén, £30 one way. There are only these big comfortable coaches with reclinable chairs, no other cheaper options. I found my Couchsurfing host on his camp side. Unfortunately the land was dirty, without facilities, and Gonzalo offered me to sleep in his sleeping bags, that I suspected were not washed for a while, and he had many people staying with him in the tent. Mainly hippies, or people who just couldn't afford to stay in a hostel or hotel, as the town is really expensive. Some of the people had their own tents and camping equipment. When I saw the place, I immediately knew I would not stay there, no matter how much I had to pay for a hotel. Although I have to admit, he helps people to stay in El Chaltén, if not him and his tent, some would not be able to visit the place at all, so it's great what he is doing. I went to look for a hotel, I asked in a few places and I paid £180 for 2 nights in a nice, warm and clean hotel.
