Mar del Plata

On Friday 7th February I went to Mar del Plata, a major seaside resort and fishing port in Argentina, located on the Atlantic coast. It's the most popular seaside destination in Argentina in January and February (summer). The distance between Buenos Aires and MDQ is 400 kilometers (MDQ is the airport code for Ástor Piazzolla International Airport, which serves Mar del Plata).

Buses and trains are very expensive in this period, about $60 one way. I found a car sharing website, with the same system as Blablacar in Spain, but it's called CarpooleAR in Argentina. I went to Mar del Plata in a car with a driver plus other 2 people, all of them Argentinian. I was speaking Spanish for almost 6 hours, I had a great time with them and it cost me only $27.

We arrived in Mar del Plata and my Couchsurfing host Daniel picked me up by taxi from a big roundabout where I was left by the CarpooleAR driver. Daniel lives in a big simple house that is not finished yet, he provided me with a private room with a huge clean bed. We went to a beach near the city centre called Pearla Norte. All the beaches in the city were packed with people, but because it was 4pm, people were slowly going home. So at the end it wasn't crowded and I enjoyed the beach a lot. It was an exceptionally warm night and I felt happy breathing the sea air. Daniel is an interesting person and we were talking all the time. It was one of the best days of my trip in Argentina.
