We struggled to sleep again. It's torture when you try to sleep and you can't. We woke up at 3 am and watched "Montalbano". At about 7 am we fell asleep again.
Today we spent all day in an Onsen, meaning Japanese baths. The water comes from the mountains and is very hot. The temperature in the baths is 39 - 42 degrees Celcius. The water has a lot of minerals so you need to soak. Men and woman have separate baths, you have to be naked and wash property before you enter the baths. In fact the Japanese were scrubbing themselves a lot.
The entrance to the baths is £10 per person.
There are two areas, indoor and outdoor. Outdoor is amazing, you bathe in hot water and outside there are mountains, trees and a lot of snow.
There are also coin-operated massage chairs (100 yen for 10 minutes, that is 56p) so we spent some time using them.
Strangely there is a popular Indian restaurant downstairs so we had a lovely and filling dinner there (£11.86 for both of us).
We still can't believe how inexpensive Japan can be.
