Tokyo - Sapporo: 832 km, 1.5 hours on a plane (Vanilla Airlines), cost per person: £37.
We took a train from the airport to Sapporo train station where we left our suitcases in coin-operated lockers. There are plenty of good size lockers all over Japan and the large ones cost 600 yen per day, that is £3. Our Homestay host Saori was at work until 5 pm.
We did a lot of walking and visiting again: the Government building, Clock Tower, Television Tower where we took a lift and went to the top. The view from there was amazing. I called my dad and told him we were in Sapporo. He said he knew very well where I was which was a surprise for me. I forgot that the whole winter he is glued to TV and watches winter sports, especially ski jumping, and Sapporo is famous for its slopes.
Then we went to Beer Museum and Beer Garden, Sapporo beer is well known and I liked the taste of if it a lot. In the Beer Garden we had dinner, I had a whole fried squid and salad. Then we took tube to Saori's flat in Gakuen Mae, called by us to remember: guacamole :), 3 tube stops from the central train station. She met us by the station.
Her flat is spacious and we sleep in a typical Japanese room on a tatami floor. It's beautiful. Saori is a teacher in a primary school.
There is no Sakura in Sapporo, it's still too cold here.
In the pictures: view over Odori park from the TV Tower and in Beer Museum.
