It got really hot during the middle of the day, so we came back to the hotel to rest and in the late afternoon we went out for dinner. We found a cafe that had a lot of positive reviews on Tripadvisor. We were disappointed with the cafe, the food was unsatisfactory and it was served cold as the waiters were too busy to bring it to our table. Most of the clientele were tourists that read about the place on tripadvisor.
We walked 2.5 kilometres to get to the cafe and the walk was great, by the Kandy Lake, also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk - an artificial lake in the heart of Kandy.
We also had a nice walk back along the lake, then we bought a lot of cinnamon tea in a shop (Sri Lanka grows cinnamon trees). It’s not really tea, there are no tea leaves, just pure cinnamon in bags to brew. This was our Saturday night out.
In Sri Lanka the sun rises at 6 am and sets at 6 pm, all year round. People wake up very early and go to bed early too, to take advantage of the day light. We started doing the same, and it makes sense, you just follow the sun. In London I can't get out of bed when it's dark outside. The cafes and restaurants in Kandy open very early, many close at 8.30 pm and all the shops and restaurants are closed by 10 pm.
In the pictures: in the centre of Kandy and by the Kandy lake.
