On the third day we went shopping and we also climbed the Torre Asinelli, one of the Two Towers, the symbol of Bologna. The Torre Asinelli is taller than Torre Garisenda, which is smaller and more leaning. It's possible to climb only the Asinelli Tower, which is 97.2 meters high and the city’s tallest. To reach the top, you need to take 498 steps on steep wooden staircases (in the picture below).
From the top the views of Bologna are stunning, you can see the city in every direction: its' red roofs, towers and belfries; the green hills to the south; the long, straight Via Emilia; Piazza Maggiore, Basilica of San Luca and more.
