We took an overnight ferry that left Porto Empedocle at midnight. We met some people that had been waiting for 2 days in the port as the ferry companies kept cancelling the trips due to bad weather.
We were worried because all the cabins were fully booked so we were going to sleep on uncomfortable chairs in the common waiting area. Luckily, there were few cancellations and Fausto was quick to get us a cabin with two beds. It was an unusual experience as the sea was rough and sleeping in these conditions was not easy. Despite the 10 - hour wait in Porto Empedocle and the rough sea, I was very happy to be on the ship as I love the sea.
We arrived in Lampedusa at 9.30 am where Antonella picked us up in her car. She took us to a flat that we booked online and helped us to hire a motorbike. The flat is tiny but very cosy. We went to a beach called Cala Madonna that we liked a lot because there were not many people, the water was transparent and the beach was surrounded by rocks. In the evening we went to a view point on the other side of Lampedusa to watch the sunset. It was really nice but on the way back I lost control of the motorbike and got us some scratches.
In the pictures: Cala Madonna beach and waiting for the sunset.
