After that we went to Polhena beach which is situated about 200 meters from our hotel. It's a small beach, busy with mostly local people, noisy, and the women were wearing clothes in the water. I went swimming while Fausto was guarding our belongings and I was harassed by a group of young men. I told them that I would call police and this made them stop harassing me. Needless to say, we didn't enjoy the beach experience.
In the evening we went to an amazing restaurant in a posh LakRaj Heritage hotel near our hotel and right by the sea, with a lot of lights on the trees. The hotel was very posh and expensive at about £200 a night at the time we were staying in the area, yet the restaurant food was reasonably priced at £5 per person. We were very surprised.
The food was very tasty, whatever fish it was. On the menu it always says "fish" and when you ask what fish it is, they give you a name in their language, so there’s no point in asking. However, what we noticed was, that in restaurants when you ask if the fish has been caught on the same day, they are very honest and they usually say that not, it was caught 1 or 2 days before, and frozen.
It was one of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka.
