3 January, Udawalawe National Park

This morning we took 2 buses to get to Udawalawe national park, we left the coast behind and we are inland now. On the way here we saw Tangalle beach. I read in the guide book that it was beautiful, and we can confirm it is. There were not many tourists in Tangalle, in fact we saw none. The journey to the national park took 3 hours and cost about £1 per ticket. We found our hotel in Udawalawe Junction and after that we had rotties for lunch, in a local food shop. We love freshly-made rotties.
The town is just a junction, nothing else. The main attraction is the national park and tomorrow we are doing safari.
We asked the owner of the hotel if we could wash our clothes in a laundrette. She said we could give her our clothes and she would take care of it. Later in the evening we had a walk near the hotel, in the jungle, and we saw a river. I noticed a lady washing clothes in the river, I saw something blue on the stones so I joked to Fausto: look, the lady is washing your blue t-shirt. We were looking at her for a while and we noticed with horror that she was really washing our clothes. We thought the clothes would be washed in a washing machine, not in a river. We have to admit though that the lady was working very hard, she put a lot of soap on our clothes and washed them properly.
